One application of Molexit will last from about 4-6 weeks. Molexit is made to be a time released repellent, and as it biodegrades, it slowly releases more of the active ingredient. Rain water, sprinkler systems, and moisture from the air all play a role in Molexit's time release process, and also play a role in how long it is active. If your lawn has a sprinkler system that runs several times a week, or if you experience a month with above average rainfall, the life of the product will decrease slightly. But as general rule, regardless of lawn size and area that you live in, Molexit will be active for about 4-6 weeks.

I live in NJ. How long does a application last before needing to be applied again in the same area? My lawn is 3/4 acre.

Unfortunately, Molexit only works on the common mole. Molexit is a castor oil based repellent and castor oil is only known to repel the common mole. We have heard claims that castor oil based repellents work for repelling other burrowing animals, but our experience with castor oil repellents, as well as the testing we had done at the University of Kentucky, only found positive results when used to repel the common mole.

Molexit works best when applied to lawns of about 1½-2 acres or less. The smell of Molexit is offensive to moles, so when they pick up on the smell of it, they try to get out of the treated area. We have found that when Molexit is applied over a large area (over about 1½ acre) the moles get confused because they can't seem to escape from the smell. When all is said and done, they end up making a bigger mess of the yard than intended.

If you do have moles, Molexit is definitely what you need. But we would recommened treating just the yard immediately around your house. After that works, you might be able to push them further away with another application, but when working with larger lawns, it is best to work in several smaller applications in order to slowly push the moles away from your home and lawn. In order to treat a 1 acre lawn, you would need 4 boxes of Molexit. These can be purchased on our website, or by calling 1-800-785-7890.
